WHAT TO TAKE

WHAT  YOU  NEED  TO  TAKE  WITH  YOU  TO  LOS  TOROS

1.      Passport and Back-up Photo ID, like a Drivers License - keep a copy of both in your carry-on bag.

2.  Clothes - for warm weather *.

3.      Meds - carry your personal meds with you in your briefcase or bag.

4.  A small umbrella or rain gear.

5.      Notebook - Journal to write in; and two pens.

6.      Hat or cap, sun screen and sun glasses to protect you from the sun.

7.      Water bottle or container for water.

8.      Mosquito repellent with Deet or other strong repellent.

9.      A small mirror to shave with or for your hair.

10.  T P or Kleenex for emergency use.

11.  Towel, wash cloth, soap & shampoo and Hand Sanitizer.

12.  A small flashlight for the evenings.

13.  Good walking shoes and flip-flops for el baņo.

14.  Travel - Lunch for airplane or be prepared to pay mucho dinero in the airport!

15.  Gift for your host family.

* - It will be very warm - you do not need a jacket or sweater; leave them in the van in Chicago.  You do not need a lot of clothes; Dominicans are usually casual but neat, one set of dressy casuals would be good for special events and church. Concerning shorts, most older Dominicans do not wear them and because of the mosquitoes we strongly discourage them; also shorts are very inappropriate for church in the DR. That being said, some people do use shorts, but please be appropriate.

Please bring as few personal things as you can and it will be easier to travel around the DR.
