Los Toros Mission: BECA Scholarship Program
Education is a pillar of our Los Toro Mission. The BECA Program (Beca stands for “scholarship” in Spanish) began in 1992 with just 3 fulltime students. Today, the funds allocated to BECA are used primarily for providing scholarships to the University as well as for other purposes that allow other Los Toros students to obtain a college degree:
  • Beca Scholarships: There are currently 24 students utilizing a Beca scholarship to obtain a degree. Students are majoring in medicine, several areas of engineering, education, agriculture, language and communication. Full scholarship Beca students receive University expenses and room and board assistance. Students currently in the program have scheduled graduation dates ranging from 2015-2021. “Partial Beca” students receive a monthly stipend to be used for college expenses.

  • Beca funds are also used to supplement rent for an apartment in San Juan so that 14 students who are paying their own tuition can have a suitable place to stay overnight so they can take evening classes to complete their degree at the university extension in San Juan.

  • Funds are utilized to pay for a bus and driver to take Los Toros students to San Juan for college classes in the weekend program

  • Funds are also used to supplement rent and food for 12 students who attend college in Santo Domingo and live in the Cristo Rey facility.

A Los Toros Beca Student Graduates and Sends a Message of Gratitude
June 11, 2016: “Today I fulfilled one of my goals and that is to become an electrical engineer. This would not have been possible without your economic and moral support. You know that I have infinite gratitude for all your help. It is always good to let you know that we (Beca students) appreciate all the love and unconditional support given to us and the whole community (Los Toros). Many of us have managed to graduate with your contribution!

Thank you, thank you for your help!”
