Israel Mateo
Reyes is 22 years old, he graduated last year form the
Polytechnic high school in Azua with a specialty
in computers. He has worked as a volunteer in the Los Toros library for a number
of years. He has helped to maintain the computer lab as well as the garden outside
the library. Currently Israel lives in the capital and is working there
with hope to continue his studies. He is very smart and knows a lot about
computers.

Notes:
Los Toros is located in the
Southwest of the Dominican Republic and is about 3 or 4 hours driving time from
Haiti. Some Haitians live in Los Toros and a number work out on the farms.
Haitians do not speak Spanish but those who live in Los Toros are picking it up.
Dominicans are proud of their culture and their language, they make a good
effort at using it properly and will help you learn it if you ask them. You can
see the Haitians in Los Toros slowly but surely picking the language and
starting to communicate. So if you ever meet someone in Los Toros who does not
understand your Spanish be aware, it might be a Haitian.
One more
little note; if you notice, this week there are eight words that are
"free" words. They are almost all exactly like the English!
