Items Needed For Haitians in Los Toros

During our trip in May 2010 we asked the Haitians what they would like us to bring in October. They surveyed 18 houses and came up with the list below:

(Important - Read notes below list )

Items On Haitian’s Lists

New Add On's in Red

Men’s Trousers and Jeans - waist 30 - 32 length 30 -32

Men’s Shirts and T Shirts - Medium

Men’s Shoes - Size 8 - 9 - 9 1/2  (tennies)

Men’s Sandals - Size 8-9 - 9 1/2

Men’s Underwear (briefs-shorts) - Medium - Small (Only New)!

Socks - athletic (New) to fit shoe size 8-9 - 10

Women’s Blouses - Medium *

Women’s Skirts - Medium *

Women’s Shoes - Size 8-9 *

Women’s Sandals - Size 8-9 *

(Note 75%  are men so we need more men's clothes)

Towels - Wash clothes

Soap - Shampoo

Toothbrushes - Toothpaste - large

Sheets - Full unfitted

Very lightweight blankets - Full or Twin Size

Sleeping Bags - we need only a few and (only in very good condition - (“New” or “Like New”)

Exercise Mats (Foam) - To be used for sleeping in floor. (Many Haitians do not have beds).

Notebooks and Pens

Water Filters - About 10 - 15 - cost US $25.00 - We purchase these in Santo Domingo!

Important: Because of Baggage limitations we cannot take items that are not a priority for the Haitians; we also do not want to use our l space taking clothes or items that are worn, or not “New” or “Like New”.

All Personal Care and Hygiene materials should be “New”!

All clothing should be either “New” or “Like New”!

Clothing should be lightweight and suitable for a Hot Climate.

Bedding materials should be “New” or “Like New”.

*Of the Haitian population in Los Toros approximately 75% are male and 25% are female, only a few children. So we need mostly men's items.

Muchas Gracias - for your understanding ( “New” or “Like New”! ). It is very difficult to transport items to Los Toros because of Airline limitations and arranging ground transportation in the DR. Our goal is to work as effectively as possible and use our resources, both material and human, in the best manner possible.
