Marte Santiago
Update
- Yarida has undergone her surgery and first
reports indicate it has been successful. Certainly recovery will take
months, however the prognosis is that she may soon be walking and
accomplishing every day tasks! We are most grateful to those who advocated
for her and help with contributions!
Yarida is 29 years old and one of
ten children. Her father is deceased and she lives with her mother in a
small house with a dirt floor. She has a bone deformity in her back with a
large growth in the center of her back. She cannot walk, but at times can
maneuver out of her bed. It is a great struggle for her mother to care for
her family and Yarida's illness adds a tremendous burden of worry and
care. Doctors that treat Yarida are very distant from the village and it
is not easy to get her medications. At this point the doctors are
recommending surgery which they will do gratis but Yarida and her family
need to come up with the cost of the supplies for her surgery; this
amounts to $64,625.00 Dominican Pesos or about US $2,000.00. Since the
doctors are willing to do the surgery gratis we would like to set a
priority of helping Yarida get the US $2,000.00 within the next two
months.

$2,000.00 dentro
de los próximos dos meses.

Aurelina
Rodriguez
Update - Some
resources have been allocated and given to Aurelina we are awaiting
reports of any progress with her treatment. Since her treatment is so
costly we still are asking for more donations to help with this cost.
Aurelina Rodriguez has already survived
about eight surgeries in her life and is now fighting breast cancer. Life
in Los Toros is hard enough let alone add the terrible disease of cancer. Doctors
who treat cancer are at least two hours away and difficult to get to.
Treatment requires overnight stays in the capital which is hard to
navigate and often stifling hot. Aurelina and her family face all this
bravely and cling to their faith in this difficult moment of her life.
Perhaps the best word to describe
Aurelina and her family is friendly and charming. Her children are caring
and loving persons and they certainly have learned it from their mother
who is in the midst of chemo therapy. Without asking one had see the great
concern of Aurelina and her family about this disease called cancer which
is difficult enough to fight here in the USA let a lone in a third world
country. She has mostly recovered from breast surgery and is tolerating
the chemo treatment well, however the cost is very great; SVDP is trying
to help, however her bills are way beyond the normal reach of this
group.
We would like to set a goal of two
stages for helping Aurelina, the first stage is to collect $1,000.00 by
July 15th to pay for part of one month's chemo. The second stage is to
collect $5,000.00 to partially help with the next three months treatment.
This will cover about on third of her monthly treatment cost. The prognosis
is that the chemo would greatly help her and led to at least a temporary
recovery from the cancer; so their is hope! Aurelina is a strong women
from a strong family, with help from others she will overcome this
terrible disease and continue to nurture her family and her community.

comunidad.
