The
Story of Isaias and the October AME .........
One of the goals of the AME 2011 was to continue to foster the education of
Isaias, he is called "El Sordo" (the deaf one) in Los Toros. We had
started to teach him to read and write and wanted to keep him interested in
learning. Two women on the AME trip decided to help with this, Helen and her
sister Caroline.

Here is Isaias with his mother, she is called
"La Muda" (the mute one), she can neither hear nor speak as
also her son does not speak or hear.

Ignacio brings Helen and Caroline to the rescue of this
poor boy................... and they were really excited -
both about meeting Isaias and the bike ride!
At first Isaias was a little scared, but in just a
few minutes he feel in love with these two wonderful women and vice
versa!
Isaias is very bright and caught on fast! In a
short time he was writing his name and recalled the lessons he learned
from another Grafton missioner Peter Schindler during the summer.
Isaias is talented and meticulous with his work
..........................
We plan to continue our
work with him in January with the hope that the public school will find
a way to include him in their classes and perhaps furnish a special tutor.
We also hope to help get him examined by doctors in the capital to
determine if there is some medical help for his hearing disability.
