What
needs to be accomplish during April Visit to Los Toros
Participants:
Ryan
Henke, Katie Tunder, Aaron Lorge, Kelly Tunder, Peter Schindler, Peter
Bennett, Don Kabara
Notes:
1.
Our consensus is to try to do English classes for Primary and Secondary
students in Los Toros, Sananoja and Las Guanabanas and Young Adult classes
in Los
Toros. We also want to raise the bar a little and offer some more advanced
techniques including writing sentences, using stories and songs to learn
English.
2.
We will use some of the same activities as previously however we will add
notebooks for primary students and some sort of workbook for young adult
and perhaps secondary school students.
3.
Primary students levels 1 -6, all ages; Secondary students any age; Young
Adult 17 - 29.
Primary
groups of 7-10, Secondary groups of 10-12, Young adult groups of 6-7. We
will try to group students together by ability and by social interaction.
We
wish to establish two leaders for the young adult group, one man and one woman
and have women in a separate group and then combine all at the end.
4.
Primary and Secondary students from Los Toros will meet in Library and
perhaps in new sewing center; Sananoja students probably will meet in
church (Don to Check). Las Guanabanas will meet in community center. Los
Toros Young Adult will meet in new Los Toros Foundation Center.
5.
In April Don will meet with leaders in Los Toros, Sananajoa and Las
Guanabanas to arrange for schedule and facilities. Ryan and Katie will
lead effort to make posters for each site to advertise and establish guidelines
for program. Ryan, Katie and Peter Schindler will lead effort to make
recommendations for possible workbooks, etc.
Additional note from Peter Bennett
concerning packing and getting our personal (carry-on) possessions to Los
Toros - Here is Peter's message:
Can you forward
this to the group? I use these bags on my trips to LT and they make
packing all the stuff I need for a trip much easier. The bags in the
link (below) allow you to squeeze all the air out so that you can make
your carry-on more compact (i.e. take more stuff). It ends up
being a lot easier to fit carry-ons into the overhead bins on the planes.
In the past I've just used the large size for pretty much all of my
clothing. Additionally, these bags are watertight, which can be a
big advantage if we need to travel on foot in the rain with our luggage.

What
needs to be accomplish during April Visit to Los Toros
Participants:
Notes:
1. Program goals and objectives include
dental hygiene education and introduction to Los Toros Dental Clinic and
awareness of its services to other villages.
2. Activities to include Classes -
presentations on dental hygiene using, demonstrations, posters and
graphics, tours of dental clinic and instructions on how to get treatment
at the clinic. Separate agendas will be prepared for each village. We
discussed using balloons, etc. to make the facilities look more inviting
and set the children at ease - especially in the dental clinic.
3. Age level is primary school and we
will try to work with small groups.
4. We will set up dates in April and
confirm facilities. Los Toros will start in community center, Sananoja
will be at church and we will try to use the community center in Las Guanabanas.
5. Before April trip we need to prepare
posters 3-4 for each village with blank space for entering date. Don will
coordinate local workers, etc. during April visit.
6. Resources - we have already 500 tubes
of toothpaste plus the inventory at St. Joe's - to be counted. We will
mainly need toothbrushes and will start asking for donations immediately.
Ryan will contact St. Joe's school and ask if they can collect
Toothbrushes for us. We will check inventory and project final quantities
after April visit.

needs to be accomplish during April Visit to Los Toros
6.
Open discussion
Participants:
Ryan Henke, Peter Bennett, Katie Tunder
Notes:
1.
Core Team members will assume the responsibility to supervise and direct
programs, this does not mean they lead the program but that they work
closely with the leader and make sure the work gets done. As a Core Team
they will be "go-to" people when someone needs help or direction.
We will redo the work schedule and indicate which core team member will supervise
which project. Again it is important for everyone to understand that every
participant has a leadership role and each persons needs to take on the
work of the project they are assigned.
2.
Don will work in April to establish a core team of Young Adults in Los
Toros; they will work closely with the St. Joe's team.
3.
We will add more time in training for English and also some "Blank:
sessions to cover material that is not completed in previous meetings. Don
will rework the training agenda and publish it for all to review. We will
schedule Skype conferences to work on "Music",
"Volleyball", "Haiti", "Dental" and
"English" projects with team leaders.
4.
Our philosophy embraces making the people of Los Toro self sufficient and
to assume more responsibility for organization and leadership of projects.
Our goal is to train more leaders; we will work hard at getting more
people in Los Toros proficient in communicating in English.
5.
In April Don will organize Los Toros Core team, set up times and places
and start to recruit people to participate in the programs. Katie will
organize people to make posters advertising our programs and we will
distribute them in April. Peter will create some objectives for the water
program - Don will investigate.
6.
We will schedule "down time" for the St. Joe's group to gather
and renew themselves. It looks like the Los Toros Foundation Center may be
completed by May and this might be the gathering place where people can
relax a little and compare notes.
Oración
de Paz - de San Francisco
O
Dios, haz de me instrumento de tu paz
Donde
haya odio, siembre yo amor;
Donde
haya injuria, perdón
Donde
hay duda, fe;
Donde
hay desaliento, esperanza
Donde
haya sombra, luz;
Donde
haya tristeza, alegría
Divino
maestro, concédeme que no busque
Ser
consolado sino consolar;
Ser
comprendido sino comprender
Ser
amado sino amar;
Porque
dando es que recibimos;
Perdonando
es que tu nos perdonas
Y
muriendo en ti es como nacemos a vida eterna.
Amen
