A program for meeting and making friends in another culture. An opportunity to practice your language skills - Spanish - English and to help another person learn a different language. A chance to influence the global community that unites people intellectually - economically - socially and spiritually.

 

                                                   Objectives:

1. Make new "global" friends.

2. Help one another with communication skills.

3. Learn about another culture - teach someone about your culture.

4. Find ways to help a third world community grow - economically - intellectually and spiritually.

 

                                                    Guidelines:

1. Start with a message of introduction - short and sweet.      * example

2. Every message should be one half in Spanish and one half in English.

3. Each message should teach the other "five" new words in your native language.

4. Communicate a minimum of two times each month.

5. Be sensitive to one another's culture and family background.

 Los Toros - Dominican Republic -

Los Toros is located in the South of the Dominican Republic and has about 6000 residents. Though the island is tropical in climate, the southwest region can get semi arid; however, with irrigation it is possible to survive by growing various crops such as tomatoes, tobacco, bananas, peppers and other vegetables.  

 The People of Los Toros -

The people of the village of Los Toros are industrious workers with an enthusiastic community spirit. They are sincerely dedicated to the growth and development of their community. Numerous groups have been formed and maintained to support their village including: Health Committees, Mothers Group, Youth Group, Agriculture Committee, High School Committee, Library Committee. They are ready to collaborate with others to help their community grow.
