 Young Adult Mission Experience

Update – 1 – Aug 16, 2008

Report on YAME Meeting of August 14, 2008

1. We reviewed our  Philosophy & Theology

Perception and Understanding, Compassion with Solidarity, Service that enables, Accountability

The Gospel of Jesus Christ calls us to service and to building relationships. We are called to be Spiritual persons who are committed to personal and community growth.

2. We review our personal goals and firmly set the following goals for YAME 09:

1. To effectively teach English to High School and University students.

2. To effectively teach Computer skills to High School, University students and Adults.

3. To teach Dental Hygiene to children.

4. To sponsor a mutual outreach with Los Toros to the people of Las Guanabanas that includes goals 1-3 above.

5. To build relationships with the university students (dance class + palomitas).

Secondary goals:

1.      Assist with Sewing Project.

2.      Assist with Water Project.

3. Team

We want to work together as a unified team; to allow Donald to work in other areas Ryan and Katie will help direct the team. Our objective, if possible, is to get two Dominicans to team up with each team member and work together with them. This is going to take a little work since our partners in Los Toros are at times are a little reserved, each one of us can encourage them to get involved. We are looking for your ideas on how to do this.

4. Strategy and Initial Planning

We have an idea where each person will fit into helping us reach our goals (above). Here is our plan for now:

1.      Don to check with partners in Los Toros on goals and confirm our direction. This will be done in Oct – Nov during our October visit.

2.      Each team member needs to respond in next two weeks with:

a.       Your personal goals – if not already stated (Chan, Kelly Nick).

b.      Confirm which above goal you personally wish to center on (English Computers, etc.).

c.       Confirm you will be available May 20 – Jun1, 2009.

d.      Give two dates between Dec. 19 and Jan 4 when you can meet.

e.       Give Don your name (as on your passport) and Passport number so he can purchase airline tickets. (Note: If we purchased today would be $399.60 – my Oct trip is ($360.80). Attached is preliminary budget – cost – so you can plan.

3.      We will communicate more after I receive your responses to the above. Meanwhile you can always practice your Spanish!
